Minimally Viable LinkedIn Habit

The following is a sample lesson from my LinkedIn Power Tools for Cybersecurity Practitioners 30-day Bootcamp Course.

If you can’t think of anything profound or Earth-shattering to write today, don’t. But do post something.

When I lived in Denver, I went to the gym every day unless I was out of town. There were days when I was exhausted or sick. I’d drive to the gym, shower, get dressed, and go to the office or drive home.

The core of my fitness habit was not the workout. It was the act of getting my *ss to the gym 6 days per week (7 if my family was unavailable on Sunday).

The deal is to post, not necessarily post well. The act of putting some text or a photo on LinkedIn is the core of your professional social media habit.

Sharing an article with a sentence about what you find interesting about it is perfectly acceptable.

How Minimal?

➡ An update on what you’re working on this weekend or will work on the coming week is great.

➡ A post about your writing habit is legit.

➡ A cat photo fits the bill nicely.

The Core Habit

We pursue progress, never perfection. Upon a small, easily achievable habit, we can build whatever we want.

The smaller, simpler, and easier the core habit, the greater the odds of success over time.

What's an Intuition Pump? If you find that the average value of posts we tend to see on LinkedIn is declining, you can do something about it.• Post your 𝚒̲𝚗̲𝚜̲𝚒̲𝚐̲𝚑̲𝚝̲𝚜̲• Write simply, be positive, and exercise 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞• Inspire 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 novel ideas and let them take flightI use what I've come to call "intuition pumps" (gracias, Daniel Dennett. R.I.P.) I'm a bit abusing Dennett's term here. They could also be referred to as "intuition weed wackers" or "mind machetes" since they're about...

Learning is good. Doing is better. Results are best! LinkedIn is different for cybersecurity practitioners. It´s where we find like-minded thinkers. It´s where we build reputations for innovative and creative ideas. It´s where thought leadership is mere keystrokes away. We are helping the cyber community learn to network by taking practical steps to target, expand, and deepen our networks on a daily basis. We teach members of our community to use intuition pumps and other simple tools to...

Newsletter for Tuesday, July 9, 2024 I believe in impostors. But I don’t believe in Impostor Syndrome. Syndrome is a medical term. Look it up. I won’t deny you the pleasure of doing so.50% of those who claim to have Impostor Syndrome are impostors. That 50% figure is made up. But it doesn't matter. What matters is the questions it is intended to summon forth. It is a useful fiction. The rest (whatever the number) have forgotten how to be curious. The "forgetting" is no accident. It's central to...
